A service unit of the
division of Student Services, the office of Campus Recreation serves the
university community by providing a diverse selection of recreational opportunities
and facilities designed to enhance the quality of life of each
participant. The office of Campus Recreation
performs a vital role in the recruitment and retention of students. In addition, the program allows faculty and
staff to interact with one another and with students, thus providing for a
well-rounded campus experience.
Mission
The
mission of Arkansas Tech University’s Campus Recreation is to provide
participation in a variety of sport, fitness, and recreational events that help
stimulate student learning and personal development while enhancing the quality
of life for Arkansas Tech University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and
families.
Purpose
The
purpose of Arkansas Tech University’s Campus Recreation is to provide opportunities
for a diversified population to recreate, exercise, and socialize through a
variety of programs including intramural sports, fitness, outdoor recreation,
and special events.
Program Areas
Intramural Sports
– Offers approximately twenty (20) individual and/or team sports during the
academic year. The program’s purpose is
to provide competitive and recreational leagues to help stimulate student
learning and personal development as well as enhance the quality of life for
Arkansas Tech University students, faculty, and staff.
Fitness
– Offers group exercise classes during the academic year. The program’s purpose is to provide
activities that are designed to meet the physical, mental, and social needs of
the participants; to stimulate student learning and personal development; and
to enhance the quality of life for Arkansas Tech University students, faculty,
and staff.
Outdoor Recreation
– Offers students the opportunity to experience the outdoors through the rental
of mountain bikes, camping tents, and kayaks.
The program’s purpose is to provide outdoor opportunities to aid student
learning and personal development and to enhance the quality of life for
Arkansas Tech University students, faculty, and staff.
Special Events
– Offers a variety of tournaments and events during the academic year. Events include extramural competitions in
flag football and basketball, disc golf tournament, etc. The program’s purpose is to provide
off-campus connections with other universities’ participants through
competitive and recreational events that stimulate student learning, motivate
personal development, and enhance the quality of life for Arkansas Tech
University students, faculty, and staff.
Most
of our events are divided into Men’s, Females, and/or Co-Rec leagues. The Men’s and Women’s leagues are broken down
into two divisions, Green and Gold.
Green Division: Teams
compete on Sunday/Monday/Wednesday.
Scheduling is based on a progressive scheduling process where your game
schedule will be based on your record each week. Example:
After the first week of play a 1-0 team will paired up against another
1-0 team.
Gold Division: Teams
compete Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday. Scheduling is based on a progressive
scheduling process where your game schedule will be based on your record each
week. Example: After the first week of play a 1-0 team will
paired up against another 1-0 team.
All University Tournaments: The overall
top 16 teams combined from the Green and Gold Divisions will be entered into a
16 team single elimination tournament to determine the overall campus champion
for that sport. The office of campus
recreation reserves the right to modify the tournament bracket due to team
numbers, inclement weather, or other reasons deemed necessary.
