Welcome to the University of Virginia Intramural Sports Program!
The Intramural Sports Program at the University of Virginia features a diverse selection of team sports, tournaments, individual and special events. Each one of these Intramural Sports is played at one of the IM-Rec Sports Facilities and features offerings in Mens, Womens, CoRec, Dormitory, and/or Fraternity leagues. You can click here
to find instructions on registering, creating a team, joining a team, or signing up as a free agent. Below is additional information on the differences between sport offerings and divisions.
Leagues - All league sports feature a three week regular season where teams usually play on the same day and time for each of those three weeks. The regular season is followed by a single elimination playoff, which all teams who have not forfeited and hold a 3.50 sportsmanship rating will qualify. The selection for spots in the playoff bracket will take place at the Playoff Meeting where each team must send their Captain or representative in order to select a spot. Any teams who do not send a representative to the Playoff Meeting will not be entered into the bracket.
Tournaments - There are two different types of tournaments, single day tournaments and three day tournaments. Each single day tournament will be a single elimination bracket and will only be offered in one League (Mens, CoRec etc). Each three day tournament will consist of a pool play game followed by a single elimination bracket. For three day tournaments, teams must be available to play all three days.
Challenge Ladders - Challenge Ladders will consist of a five week regular season in which each participant must complete a minimum of three matches. After the regular season all participants who have met the minimum game requirement will be placed in a single elimination bracket.
Divisions - Most Men's and CoRec Leagues will now be featuring Competitive and Recreational Divisions. Competitive divisions are geared toward experienced participants who are looking for more challenge game play. Recreational divisions are geared towards participants who playing with a ‘just for fun’ mentality. All Varsity Athletes must always compete in the Competitive Division, and club athletes participating in their associated sport must also compete in the Competitive Division. Restrictions of the number of club athletes participating in associated sports still applies. Teams in the Recreational Division may be bumped to the Competitive Division for the playoffs at the discretion of the Intramural Sports Staff.
** Please note that only the Competitive Division Champs will receive IM Champ T-shirts. Recreational Division will receive alternate prize.
