How much does it cost to play intramurals?

The cost of intramurals depends on what sport you choose to participate in. Each League sport has a refundable team forfeit fee, of $50.00. In the case a team forfeits without prior notice this fee goes towards the payment of staff who would have worked the game.

Tournaments are always free. If your team does not forfeit any games during the season the forfeit fee will be refunded at the end of the semester.

How do I create and register my Intramural team?

1. Locate the "Register" link on the top right corner of the IM Leagues Homepage. From the drop down menu choose "Create Team"

2. Choose the sports league in which you wish to compete.

3. Choose the "Create team" option and invite players to join through IM Leagues. If a team mate's name is not coming up when you search for them on IM Leagues, get in touch with them: they may have used a nick name, or they have yet to register with IM Leagues.

4. Registration is complete upon payment of Forfeit fees and attendance to the Mandatory Captain's meeting (Captain's and/or at least 1 player from each team must attend or risk dropping from league).

I want to participate in intramurals, but I don’t have a team. What should I do?

1. A great way to form a team for intramural sports is to get together with students from your floor or Resident Hall. Ask your RA for help in generating interest.

2. You can also sign up on Imleagues as a Free Agent. Team captains will have the choice to place free agents on their team if they need more players. Feel free to message team captains on IM Leagues if you see they can add more players.

3. Post on our facebook page! https://www.facebook.com/UniversityAtAlbanyCampusRecreation

What’s the difference between a forfeit and a default?

Failing to show up to your scheduled game time with the minimum number of players can cost your team a forfeit for the match. At the discretion of the referees, if your team displays poor sportsmanship during the game your match can be forfeited.

A team will receive a default if they contact the Office of Campus Recreation staff by 3:00pm the business day before the day their game is scheduled. For example, if your team cannot play for a game schedules on thursday night, the captain must contact the office of campus recreation by Wednesday at 3:00 pm. For weekend games: if a team cannot play in a game scheduled for Sunday, they must contact the office by 12:00pm, Friday.

Refund Policy

1 Forfeit = OK (1 warning/chance!)

2 Forfeits = No Forfeit Fee  Refund

1 Default = Full Refund

2 Defaults = 1 Forfeit

What happens if our team/teammates arrive late to a game?

This is a 5 minute grace period granted if the team has partially arrived and is awaiting members to complete their roster. If you cannot field a team at the end of the 5 minute grace period with the minimum number of players required by that sport, your team will have to forfeit the game.

Example: 5 vs. 5 basketball requires 5 players per team; minimum number to start the game is 4 players. Teams choosing to play with the minimum number required waive their right to protest the game for their disadvantage.

I want to play in an intramural sport that is not offered by Campus Rec. Who can I talk to?

We highly encourage students to voice their suggestion for a sport! We have heard great ideas for Intramurals between friendly conversations on the court and field, but make sure you share it with us, too.

Email us at Intramurals@albany.edu with your idea and we will get back to you within the week.
