Q: What sports are offered?
A: The IM Sports program offers a wide range of sports and programs. We offer different sports each semester of the academic year. Our major leagues include: volleyball, basketball, flag football, softball, soccer and more. We offer a wide range of special tournaments and events too, including badminton, bass fishing, and many more!
Depending on event or sport being offered (due to many requests) or significantly smaller operations, the price on the sport may vary. The league of the sport will classify how much it is in the league description

Q: How many teams can I play on?
A: You can play on one gender specific team and one co-ed team for each sport. For example, you can play on a male flag football team and a co-ed flag football team. But there is no limitation on how many sports you play in a semester and we encourage you play as many as you would like.
Q: How do I register a team?
A: Teams can be registered on IMLeagues.com. Creating and inviting people to join the team are done through here
Q: How much do intramurals cost?
A: Our leagues, such as basketball, volleyball, softball, etc. cost $25 for registration fee. For forfeits, a fee of $15 will be placed on the team captain’s account to be paid in full in order to be eligible to play in their next game. Two forfeits will result in a total of $30 to be paid, and removal from the league. Failure to pay forfeit fines will result in a locked account and will be ineligible to play in future events until all debt is paid.
Q: What do participants win?
A: Each intramural participant on a winning team will win the coveted Championship T-shirt. A new t-shirt is designed each year. In addition, their championship photo will be placed in the SFC to showcase their team winning for their league
Q: What if I don’t have a team?
A: You can sign up to be a free agent at the SFC reception desk or online. Captains looking to pick up extra players can stop by the intramural office and get the free agents contact information or directly contact the free agent to see if they are interested in joining their team.
Q: How many people can I have on my team?
A: Roster size is typically a doubled amount of the participants needed to play the game
- Basketball: 5v5, teams capped at 10
- Volleyball 6v6: teams capped at 12
- For future reference though, all the leagues Rules and Information can be found via IMLeagues.com and will provide a clear consensus on how many players are allowed on a team
Q: Where are the games played?
A: Most outdoor events will take place at the RecPlex, just a little down the road from the SFC. Any indoor activity will take place at the Student Activity Center, located in the SFC, or Court 4 of the SFC. All times and places will be posted online for the teams to see.
Q: Where can I find when my team plays, where we play and our standings?
A: You can go to IMLeagues.com to see when your team plays next. If you are looking for schedules and standings, click on the button on the top left that says schedules then select the sport you’d like.
Q: How do I find rules for the sports?
A: Rules for each program can be found on the IM Sports Homepage. In the Rules & IM Handbook tab
Q: How are playoffs conducted?
A: Your team must have a 2.75 sportsmanship rating to make the playoffs. We base our sportsmanship rating on a 4.0 scale. Sportsmanship is a requirement to make the playoffs. In addition, teams need a .500 record to be eligible for playoffs too. Playoff date and times may be different from the usual dates a team has been playing for the regular season. In order to conduct playoffs with seeding and space reservation, it is imperative to keep that in mind when playing/choosing a time slot for your team
- We will do the best we can to schedule playoff games accordingly toward the games that have been played during the regular season, but times and dates may differ
Q: What is the difference between Intramurals and Club Sports?
A: Club sports are registered student organizations that are managed by campus recreation. Some of these clubs compete on a regional and national level against other universities and colleges; while other clubs operate on a recreational level only. Intramural sports give SIUE students the opportunity to compete with other SIUE students in different leagues including Men’s, Women’s and CoRec.
Q: Can I play both club and intramurals?
A: Yes, you can and we encourage it! However, we do have a restriction on this. For intramural sports played with six or fewer participants on the field/court, teams are limited to two Club Sport athletes. For intramural sports played with more than six on the field/court, a total of four Club Sport members can be on the team’s roster. In both cases, the Club participants must represent less than 50% of the team’s roster. These regulations only apply to sport which is considered the parallel sport. For example, a men’s softball team may only have two men on the team that also play for the SIUE Club Baseball team.
Q: Can I play intramurals if I’m a varsity athlete?
A: Yes you can! However, we have a restriction on this. Varsity athletes may not play in their parallel sport while they are on the varsity team. Also, if a varsity athlete wishes to play in their parallel sport, they must sit out one full academic year starting from the end of their last varsity season. Also, teams are limited to one former varsity athlete per team in the parallel sport.
Q: What if I get injured while playing intramural sports?
A: All of our intramural supervisors are certified in professional rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid. They are first responders in all emergency situations and are trained to handle all situations that may occur in regards to injuries. All participants must also sign a liability waiver before they play.
Q: How do I join the staff?
A: To get more information as to whether or not intramural sports are hiring for officials or supervisors please contact Campus Recreation or get in contact with the information at the bottom of the screen for more detail. In addition, please send over a resume when considering applying. Our trained staff will provide in-class and on-board training for all the sports being offered for the following semester, which gives officials an opportunity to learn all of the sports, knowing where to position oneself and things to look out for. We supply referee shirts and whistles, the only thing relied upon on the student worker are athletic shoes and dark colored shorts/sweats (when its cold outside).
