Who is eligible to participate in intramural sports?

Any current student, faculty, or staff member of George Mason University (GMU) may participate. Part-time non-student wage employees and university affiliates MUST complete an employment verification form for each sport they wish to participate. There are specific rules regarding former varsity, club and professional athlete’s participation. All participants must provide a valid George Mason ID prior to the start of each game.

What is the difference between intramural and club sports?

Intramural sports involve competition between students, faculty /staff and organizations on campus.  Club sports offer Mason students the ability to compete against other teams from other universities within the region and possibly nationally.

How can I find out about upcoming intramural and recreational sports activities?

The most up-to-date place is the Intramural website (imsports.gmu.edu).  Additionally, fliers are posted around campus, advertisements are placed in the Broadside and on the Plasma Screen TV’s, notifications appear on electronic message boards, and the Rec Sports information line (993-GMU1) is updated frequently.

What if we do not have enough players able to make our scheduled game?

Please contact the Intramural Office at least 24 hours in advance and submit a forfeit notification form which can be found on recreation.gmu.edu under the Intramural Sports section.

I’ve lost my George Mason University ID Card, may I still participate?

All George Mason students, faculty, and staff are required to have a valid GMU ID card at check-in for each game. If you have lost your ID, you must get a replacement before you will be permitted to play. NO ID...NO PLAY!! Click here to go to the University Photo ID web page.

How can I find out about weather realated cancellations?

If your game is affected for any reason related to weather. We will update you via IMleagues email or text. This is why we encourage you to enter your phone number to receive text message updates so that you can get last minute notification.
