What are Intramural Sports?

Intramural Sports are a recreational activity provided by the University so students who enjoy sports have the opportunity to play them in a structured environment.

What types of Intramural Sports are offered?

Assumption currently offers the Grilling Games, NFL Survivor Pick’em, Co-Ed Softball, Homerun Derby, Flag Football, Field Goal Contest, Tennis, Dodgeball, Rock/Paper/Scissors, Golf, Floor Hockey, Co-Ed Innertube Waterpolo, PS3 Console Events, Table Tennis, Indoor Soccer, Racquetball, 3 v 3 Basketball, 5 v 5 Basketball, Ice Hockey, Mini-Golf, Badminton, Volleyball, Kickball, Soccer, March Madness Bracket, Wiffleball, Ultimate Frisbee, Swim Meet & Battleship.

How do I sign up for Intramural Sports?

Sign-Ups for Intramural Sports are all done on IMleagues.com.  In order to be able to sign up for Intramurals, you must first go on the website and create an account under the Assumption University page.  Creating an account for this is similar to that of Facebook.  Once you have created your account, you will have the ability to go and join or create a team in whatever sports you wish to play in.

Why do we have to pay to play Intramural Sports?

The money that is paid from your Intramural team goes towards buying new equipment and prizes for that league.  The money is all recycled back into the Intramural Program.

If I create a team on IMleagues, where can I pay for it?

You can pay right when you create your team, using a Debit/Credit Card or in the Campus Recreation office, Monday-Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM.

How can I monitor who joins my team on IMleagues?

IMleagues gives the captain the right to have to approve any person who tries to sign up for their team if you select the option when creating your team.  If you leave auto-approval on, any person can join your team.  You are also allowed to send invites to your friends so they know what team to join.

Can I join an Intramural Sport if I do not have a team?

IMleagues allows participants to sign up for an Intramural team as a free agent.  However, it is not guaranteed that you will find a team this way.  If you do not know of a team, ask your RA, classmates or friends if they have a team, or you can set up your own team.

What other things can I use IMleagues for?

You can use IMleagues to set your time preferences, check your team’s schedule, future opponents, standings and recent scores, and obtain weather cancellation updates.

If I am/was a Varsity athlete, can I still play Intramural Sports?

Varsity athletes are allowed to play any sport, but their own as long as they have approval from their head coach.  If you are a former Varsity player, you must have been removed from the team for one (1) full semester before being eligible to participate in that Intramural Sport.

When are Intramural Sports typically played?

Intramural Sports are played from Sunday-Thursday, with most start times at or after 6 PM.  Sports that require use of the field turf are usually played after 6 PM except for Sundays, when games start around 4PM.  Some sports, like softball, have a start time of 4 PM on weekdays.

Do I need to bring anything to be eligible to play?

Every student must have a valid Assumption University ID that they must provide at the beginning of every game in order to be able to play.  This includes; graduate students and Assumption University Staff.  Having a lost ID is not considered a valid excuse.  Also, make sure to check the rules for your specific sport, because different sports have different rules on what you can and cannot wear.

What happens if my team does not show up for a game?

If your team forfeits during the regular season, they are not allowed to participate in the playoffs unless they pay a forfeit fee ($10).  Teams that forfeit twice (2) will not be allowed to play in the playoffs.

What happens if I am ejected from an Intramural event?

Any player ejected from a sport will be suspended a minimum of one (1) game and shall meet with the Assistant Director of Recreation before being allowed to play in another game for that team.  Ejections can range from multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties to fighting.  An additional suspension or judicial intervention may be required depending on the incident.

What does the sportsmanship rating mean for my team?

A team must maintain a 4.0 Sportsmanship rating out of 5.0 possible points to be eligible for the playoffs.  Team receiving below a 4.0 may still participate in playoffs if all players attend a sportsmanship seminar prior to their playoff contest.

Are there any local Intramural Tournaments my team can sign up for?

Assumption University is not currently affiliated with any other local intramural tournaments, but some sports offer the ability to participate in a NIRSA Regional Tournament with a chance to play in Nationals.  For more information, contact Jon LeDoux jf.ledoux@assumption

What do I get if I win an Intramural Championship?

Not only do you get your picture on the Wall of Champions, which is an Assumption University tradition, but you will also get a coveted Assumption University Championship T-Shirt.
