Who makes playoffs at the end of the regular season?
At the end of the regular season, each team is ranked with the rest of the teams within the division/league. If your team has not forfeited or defaulted and maintains a 3.0 sportsmanship rating average, your team should make playoffs. Playoffs last anywhere from one to two weeks. Whenever possible, Campus Rec tries to schedule a post-season extramural game with our CSS Champions vs. UWS's or UMD's Champions.

What are Free Agents?
Free Agents are individuals who want to play in a league or tournament, but do not belong to a team. Anyone without a team can register as a FREE AGENT. A list of the free agent names and contact info is available to all captains in IMLeagues.com. It is not guaranteed that a Free Agent will be picked up by a team.

What is the difference between co-rec and open league divisions?
Co-Rec teams are comprised of a specific number of men's and women's players on the field/court at a time. Half of the team on the court/field must be comprised of women. In the case of an odd number of players on the court, there can be one more of either gender. Check the specific IM Sports Rules for more information. Open leagues allow any number of men and/or women to compete in this division. There are no restrictions in this type of league. Teams can be all men, all women, or any combination of the two.

What are a forfeits and defaults, and how can my team avoid getting one?
A team forfeits if they fail to have the minimum number of players present at game time OR if a team fails to show up for their scheduled game. It is the entire team's responsibility to know when its games are scheduled and to show up and be checked in with IM Staff a minimum of 5 minutes prior to game time. It is recommended that teams show up 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time so that games may begin on time. IM Staff will not delay the start of the game time to wait for pokey players. Game time IS forfeit time. A team can also receive a forfeit for not sending a captain/representative to the Captain's Meeting or due to poor sportsmanship. A default is recorded if a team notifies the League Supervisor at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled game time that they will not have the minimum number of players to play. If a team is scheduled for more than one game in on a league night, each game is counted for either a forfeit or a default. Two defaults = 1 forfeit. If a team forfeits twice, it is removed from the league and will not be allowed to compete in playoffs. Even one forfeit or any number of defaults can prevent teams from making playoffs.

Why are there forfeit fees?

Let's be honest. Forfeits are lame. They stink for your opponents who show up to play and are waiting around to see if your team is going to make it on time. Forfeits are disrespectful to your opponents and the Intramural Staff who have to switch games around, reschedule, and hound you about making sure you and your teammates are showing up on time. This $25 administrative fee covers the extra time our staff needs to follow up and develop new league schedules, and we are hopeful that this will be a deterrent to prevent forfeits entirely. If you can't get your team to the game and end up forfeiting, the captain is responsible for collecting the money and must pay the $25 fee by cash or check within 2 business days of that scheduled game to the Intramural Sports Coordinator in BWC 205. Paying this fee allows your team to get back on the schedule to play in the league. Teams that do not pay the Forfeit Fee within 2 business days are taken off of the schedule until the fee is paid. After 1 week, if the team still has not paid the Forfeit Fee, that team is permanently dropped from the league. Teams that do forfeit may still have an opportunity to make playoffs depending on league record and sportsmanship ratings. If you don't want to pay the forfeit fee to get back into the league, we will miss you. We really do want you to play, but we want you to show up with enough players. 2 forfeits = dropped from the league & playoffs

What are the Team Captain's responsibilities?
Each captain for an Intramural Sports team is responsible for registering his/her team during the registration period. In addition, captains are responsible for communicating with all of his/her team members so that each player knows when and where the team is scheduled to play. All schedules are posted on the IMLeagues.com website and the Intramural Sports bulletin board located by the Campus Rec front desk in the BWC. Captains are also responsible for understanding and informing their team members of the intramural sports rules, policies, and procedures.
