Who can play Liberty Intramural Sports (LUIMS)?

Liberty Intramural Sports provide an opportunity for students who cannot, or choose not to participate in NCAA sports, to compete at a lower level of competition.  In an effort to allow Faculty/Staff members & Graduate students to interact with Undergraduate students, they are also eligible to participate in the IMS program.  Alumni are not eligible to participate.  In an effort to achieve an equal level of competition there are a few exceptions and those are found in the Eligibility section of the IMS Handbook.

How do I sign up for an Intramural Sport?

As a convenience to you, all Intramural Registration is done online on our Intramural Sports League site www.imleagues.com/liberty.  You can create your own team or sign up as a “Free Agent” with the possibility of being chosen to participate on an established team. Each team has their very own team page allowing them to share all of their own team information with each other.   The deadlines to register each team are found on the Liberty school page at www.imleagues.com/liberty. The deadline to sign up to play on a team is the first regular season game. If you have any questions or need assistance feel free to stop by or call the IMS office, located in the Campus Recreation offices on the mezzanine level of the Tilley Student Center.

A player cannot play on two different teams in the same sport. Players can be added on a team up until the first regular season game. Can I request certain times to play?

Liberty University Intramural Sports does not cater to team's schedule requests before each leagues's season starts due to time restraints and the large amount of teams that participate in each league. However once the league schedule is put online each captain has the ability to contact their individual Sport Supervisor to request changing specific game dates and times. These requests are looked at on an individual basis and if all parties involved (individual team captains) agree then the changes will be made.

What happens if my team cannot make a scheduled game?

If you know in advance your team cannot make a scheduled game, the team captain can request a default on IMLeagues, by 2:00 pm that day, in order to avoid being charged with a $10 forfeit fine. The team's captain can also call the Intramural Sports office (434-592-3145) by 2:00 pm the day of your scheduled game to let us know that you cannot make your scheduled game time.  That team will be charged with a default but no fine and the game will not be rescheduled. If a team does not show up without letting us know they will be charged with a forfeit and assessed a $10 fine.  That fine must be paid before your team's next scheduled game.  If not, that game will be forfeited and another $10 fine will occur.  If that fine is not paid, your team can be dropped from the league.

How long is each Intramural Sports season?

Most seasonal sports last almost the entire semester.  Our goal is to get as many games for each team that we can, usually two per week .  The amount of games played depends on how many teams we have participating in each league.  The weather can also determine the length of a season and the number of games played.  After each regular season there is a single-elimination playoff for each seasonal sport.  Games are usually scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evenings.  Fridays are reserved for makeup dates in case of inclement weather. Some sports like Broomball and Beach Volleyball are held solely on Sunday evenings due to facility availability.  Sports offered as weekend tournaments can be held on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday on different weekends throughout the semester.

What do we need to bring for each game?

Each player must bring their I.D. (Flames Pass) to each game and sign in at the check-in table before playing.  If you do not bring your I.D. (Flames Pass) you will not be able to play that day.  IMS will provide most equipment if needed (softball gloves excluded) but each team may bring their own (i.e. softball bats).  You do not have to have uniforms to play.  We do request that the home team wear white shirts and the away team wear dark shirts.  The first team listed on the schedule is usually the home team.  IMS will provide pennies for those who need them.

Are there times my team can practice?

There are no set times or fields for practice opportunities.  There are outdoor fields for open play located on Main Campus next to Dorms 27 and 28.  LaHaye facilities are open at designated times for use outside of Intramurals.  Please check their website for available times.
